Andre vigtige funktioner i telefonen omfatter: 30 MB intern hukommelse opbevaring, microSD card slot (op til 8GB), 1,3-megapixel kamera (video QCIF @ 15fps), Stereo FM radio med RDS-funktion, musci og videoafspillere, GPRS og EDGE klasse 10, Bluetooth 2,1 med A2DP support, microUSB 2,0, samt social netværkstjenester integration. Der er mere end bare top ende teknologi her for at slå iPhone – chassis ser decideret lignende også på trods af den meget større skærm, som kommer ind på en kæmpestor fire inches.

Følelsen af rammen er også mærkeligt, men på en god måde. Det er næsten en millimeter tykkere end iPhone 4 (vi kender, chokerende), men det føles ikke det, takket være de buede ryg.

Ulempen ved denne konstruktion er, at det føles lidt plastik, hvilket ikke er det indtryk, du går efter i en premium smartphone – men det er meget let på kun 118g.

De forkromede bezel ser nice også, men det er skærmen, at den rammer, som virkelig gør Samsung Galaxy S.

Mens Google er opsat på at miste den brugerdefinerede overlejringer på moderne Android smartphones, Samsung har omsider besluttet at tilbyde sin egen hud til søgemaskinen mobile OS.

Kendt som TouchWiz 3,0, dette tema er udviklingen af indsatsen fra en række Samsung telefoner – desværre hvoraf de fleste var temmelig dystre at bruge, med en række widgets, underperformed i forhold til konkurrenterne «.

Denne overlay blev første gang brugt på Samsung Wave, hvor nye widgets var dagens orden – mens disse fungerede godt, og 10 hjem skærme var en bonus på Galaxy S får du syv skærme at arbejde med, og både widgets og ikoner ens.

Sidstnævnte er stor, da det betyder at du kan rode rundt med placeringen af dine foretrukne programmer. Men widgets er mindre en attraktion, med meget få på tilbud fra både Samsung og standard Android tilbyder – helt sikkert du får en meget mere fra den holder af HTC Desire.

Ting som daglig Briefing er meget præcise i hvad de tilbyder – vi ville have foretrukket mere tilpasning end simpel vejr og nyheder, selv om RSS-feeds er altid handy, hvis du har nous at sætte dem op.

Men grænseflade på Samsung Galaxy S er mere end dette, den store, kapacitive touchscreen er bare toppe. Vi siger ikke, det er bedre end iPhone 4, men for en person, der aldrig tog en touchscreen telefon i deres liv, kan dette ikke kan slås.

Den letteste berøring vil producere en øjeblikkelig reaktion, og kombineret med 1GHz processor fra Samsung vil Galaxy S sjældent falde fra dit input.

Mens vi ville gerne have se mere fra menusystemet (vi elsker at aflæse op fra bunden af skærmen for at aktivere ikonet listen), skal du klikke på ‘Programmer’ ikonet på Hjem skærmen for at gøre mere.

En anden feature vi elskede om Samsung Wave var det intuitive menu system, hvor de mest brugte programmer efterhånden flyttet til toppen af bunken, desværre mangler på Galaxy S.

Men den enkle ikoner og sider måde at navigere dine applikationer giver mening, at se som iPhone 4 har haft så stor succes med et sådant system.

Samsung Galaxy S kan se ud som en super telefon i form af touchscreen kapacitet, men vi mangler stadig hænder, som kan kalde og budskab med selvsikkerhed.

Den Galaxy S formår at både fungerede usædvanligt godt i denne henseende, og heller ikke ynkeligt.

Som man kunne forvente, vil vi starte med det negative ting (vi ingenting, hvis ikke konsekvent). Når du bruger telefonen første gang kontakter vil importere fra dit SIM hvis du ønsker det – intet underligt der, og vi bifalder indstillingen.

Men SIM-kontakter kan ikke sluppet af med på listen over navne, så det hele er vi tilbage med flere hundrede (ja, populære, vi kender) af identiske navne med lille SIM ikoner ved siden af dem.

Vi er ikke sikker på, om vi mangler en rigtig indlysende trick her for at fjerne SIM-kontakter, men ikke at tillade en sådan simpel kontakt manipulation fra Galaxy S virkelig helt utroligt – det også smager af en halv-færdig telefon.

En anden grund til at bakke op denne teori er Galaxy S ’tilsyneladende manglende evne til at synkronisere Facebook og Twitter kontakter med din primære liste. Ikke alene kan du ikke linke dem sammen, vores samordningsbestraebelser ikke fra starten, hvilket betyder, at vi aldrig fik dem overhovedet.

Det er en skam, overvejer Samsung kunne have gjort en telefon til en rival til HTC interval med en sådan funktion – vi kan kun håbe dette spørgsmål bliver udbedret i fremtidige opdateringer, men vi ærgrer det mangler fra starten.

Du kan synkronisere din Facebook, Twitter, Exchange og Google kontakter med telefonen-baserede profil – det tager et stykke tid, men i det mindste der er nyttige (og det meste korrekt) forslag til at gøre processen lidt lettere.

En downside er du kun kan have fem konti sammen i ad gangen – det kan lyde som en masse, men når du får to numre på forskellige Google-konti (og førnævnte SIM-kontakt), du er ude af rummet, noget, der kan plage mere smartphone aficionados, end vi ville forvente.

Men der er rart rører – evnen til at gruppere kontakter sammen, favorit dem og have deres angivelser vises på skærmen Hjem widget og lydhør display gør rulle en drøm.

Men kvaliteten af opkaldet er okay – taleren er lidt stille og kan være svære at komme i det rigtige sted at høre den person, der ringer.

Der er ingen støj annullerer vi kan se enten – det er ret meget bare en simpel opfordring system, der er forbedret ved at have en større håndsæt.

Her er hvor tingene virkelig begynder at pille op – der er en masse at vinde karakteristika for messaging side af Samsung Galaxy S.

For eksempel er hele rækken af beskeder muligheder understøttes: IM (via Google Talk), Exchange e-mail, SMS, MMS, webmail … alle nuværende og korrekte.

For e-mail konti, er det så simpelt som at indtaste dine detaljer og væk du går – ikke noget som portnumre eller sådan noget at bekymre sig om.

Du kan også interagere med dine Facebook-venner og beskeder via dedikerede Samsung ansøgning (ikke Android én), som rent faktisk virker bedre end den officielle klient.

Mens du er i stand til at uploade en statusopdatering til Facebook og Twitter fra de kølige Skriv og Go ansøgning (spare en masse tid, hvis du er en dobbelt-opdatere) der er ikke så meget mere støtte fra Samsung for Tweeting – vi »d har forventet en dedikeret Twitter portal så godt.

Tastaturet på en telefon af denne størrelse er rigtig god for – du kan trykke på tasterne med ret høj nøjagtighed, og selv om den indbyggede ordbog er en lille off-farve (i hvert fald ikke iPhone 4 niveauer af nogen strækning af fantasi), det gør den opgave i det hele.

Plus den Samsung Galaxy S er en af de første håndsæt til at bruge Swype, som giver dig mulighed for at glide fingeren hen over tastaturet, der forbinder bogstaver og skaber ordene.

Det er uhyggeligt præcise og meget mere befordrende for én-hånds brug end andre touchscreens, men det kræver nogle at vænne sig til. Det er heller ikke alt for tegnsætning-venlige (selvom du bare kan trykke på bogstaverne på skærmen som før, hvis du ikke ønsker at glide rundt).

Det er en intuitiv måde at interagere med et tastatur, og hvis du er villig til at bruge en lidt omskoling din hjerne til at indtaste tekst på en ny måde (som de dage, hvor du lærte at tale i intelligent tekst) så er det en reel behandle.

Men det er ikke den næste udvikling i tekstinput, at nogle siger, at det er. Det er cool, men det gør ikke rigtig fik de hastigheder du kan opnå at trykke på ordene i sig selv som nogle indgange naturligt vil skulle kontrolleres korrekt.

As with the nook, Samsung eReader users will be able to access the more than one million ebooks, magazines, and newspapers from Barnes & Noble’s online library. Another feature borrowed from the Barnes & Noble’s branded device is the ability for users to “lend” ebooks to other Samsung eReaders for up to two weeks.

“We are partnering with the best in the business to offer access to an extensive array of content, and have developed innovative features and technologies designed to make reading that content as personal and intimate an experience as reading a hard copy book has always been,” said Reid Sullivan, Senior Vice President at Samsung Electronics America.

At CES last January, Samsung displayed two eReaders: the 6-inch E6 announced today and the 10-inch E101. Prices announced at CES were $400 and $700, considerably higher than the $260 Nook or Kindle 2, which do not feature a touch display.

It seems Samsung had second thoughts about this price, as today it announced the eReader E6 is going to sell for $300.

It is expected to be released at some point this spring.

This Samsung eReader model resembles the nook and Amazon Kindle in form, but its bottom will slide out to reveal small control panel featuring navigation buttons and two internal speakers.

Itis going to feature a 6-inch E-ink display with a 600×800 resolution. This will offer 8 shades of greyscale, as electronic ink screens do not yet support color.

It is going to have 2 GB internal memory — which Samsung says is good for 1,500 books — and a microSD memory card slot, giving up to 16 GB of additional storage capacity.

ebooks can be in EPUB, PDF/a, or TXT formats. The E6 will also be able to display images in BMP or JPEG formats.

Despite its focus on ebooks, this device will include an MP3 player, front-facing speakers, a headphone jack, and Bluetooth 2.0 will also be included for using wireless headphones. The latter three will also be used by its text-to-speech technology.

Don’t you love the ka-ching of a perfectly positioned product? The Samsung Diva launches today, and the first fashionistas to get their manuicured claws on it can bag themselves a free gift.

The phone itself is standard fashion phone issue – i.e., not particularly fashionable, unless you like molded, bumpy white plastic – with a 3.2-megapixel camera (with Beauty Shot mode, naturally, to smooth out those gross zits on your stupid face), 2.8-inch touch-screen and a fancy diamond-shaped D-pad. Because diamonds are a girl’s best friends, dontchaknow.

Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. today announced the North American mobile phone operator MetroPCS new mobile phone with touch controls – Samsung Caliber SCH-r860 , equipped with a proprietary interface TouchWiz, social support networks such as Facebook and MySpace, as well as a full HTML browser.

Samsung Monte, or Samsung GT-S5620 is a 3.5G GPS enabled touchscreen phone with WiFi.
Specification to the B7300 and the Blue Earth, meaning that the Monte fits into a very small gap in Samsung’s current product range.
This is a 3.5G device with maximum HSDPA download speeds of up to 3.6 Mbps, and the Monte also supports WiFi connectivity.
Multimedia support is decent enough, with a multimedia player that can cope with MP3, AAC and WMA audio plus others, and H.263, H.264 and MPEG4 video. There’s no mention of support for WMV video so we guess it doesn’t have it. There is a 3.5mm audio socket though, and the Monte supports stereo Bluetooth.
The S5620 Monte does look quite stylish and interesting, but some of the other features can best be regarded as being mundane but useful. The 3″ 240 x 400 pixel touchscreen display is a fairly standard TFT panel that is similar to many others on the market. On the back is a 3.2 megapixel camera with support for geo-tagging, which is again useful but not extraordinary.
Social networking support is built in, with applications for Facebook and MySpace plus support for Bebo and Twitter, which we guess is kind of inevitable these days. The Monte runs the TouchWiz 2.0 Plus interface on top of Samsung’s own proprietary OS.
The built-in GPS supports Google Maps 3.0 and Google Latitude. Again, this is useful but just about every other handset we see at the moment can do the same thing.

All the usual software features are here such as a web browser and email client, and the S5620 also supports Exchange ActiveSync. Again, these features are hardly uncommon.
It manages to avoid the dreaded black slab effect somewhat, and it is available in black / silver or graphite / orange colour combinations.
But add all these features together and it does seem that the S5620 Monte does seem to have almost everything you need. Yes, there are phones with better displays and cameras and cleverer operating systems and gimmicks, but we have to admit that the Monte does seem to be pretty well specced.
